Islamabad : Nhial Deng Nhial, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, paid an official visit to Pakistan Tuesday and met Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The two Foreign Ministers discussed matters of mutual interest and regional developments in Asia and Africa. Foreign Minister Khar expressed Pakistan’s desire to see South Sudan emerge as a peaceful, prosperous and progressive country.
She expressed the hope that Sudan and South Sudan would be able to resolve all their outstanding issues within the framework of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005 and African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP).
The Foreign Minister renewed Pakistan’s offer of training facilities to South Sudan in the fields of diplomacy, finance, banking, human resource development etc. She also highlighted the need of greater economic cooperation between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Nhial thanked the Foreign Minister for the hospitality extended to him and expressed the hope that his visit would open a new chapter in South Sudan’s relations with Pakistan. He briefed the Foreign Minister on the state of his country’s relations with Sudan. He also delivered a letter from President of South Sudan.
Foreign Minister Nhial Deng Nhial also called on the Prime Minister and briefed him on the developments in Africa and the relations between Sudan and South Sudan.
This was the first ever visit by the Foreign Minister of South Sudan since becoming an independent state in July 2011.
