Reinstatement of sacked employees in accordance with PPP manifesto: Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD :  Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that reinstatement of the sacked employees was in line with the policy of the democratic government as provision of employment to people was one of major planks of PPP’s manifesto.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Syed Khursheed Shah, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Chairman of Cabinet Committee on Reinstatement and Regularization of Sacked Employees, who met him at the PM House on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said that the project of Lady Health Workers (LHWs) was a masterstroke of Shaheed Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto’s genius who kept the well being of rural women close to her heart.

The Prime Minister said that Lady Health Workers was a flagship programme which aimed at providing healthcare services to the womenfolk living in inaccessible regions of the country. He said that the project won international acknowledgement.

Syed Khursheed Shah told the Prime Minister that the Cabinet Committee had approved regularization of the services of 106000 Lady Health Workers and the summary was being sent to the Prime Minister for his approval.

The Minister said that the federal government had decided to continue to pay salaries of LHWs up to 2015 but the provinces were pleading to extend the payment of salaries to 2017.

The Minister said that the federal government was bearing the expenses to the tune of Rs. 17 billion per annum in the form of salaries of LHWs.

He said that reinstatement and regularization of thousands of employees was a major decision of the government in line with PPP manifesto and vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

The Minister said that provision of job opportunities to the unemployed youth was the top priority of the government and no stone would be left unturned in this regard.

The Minister stated that the government had so far reinstated 11000 employees who were sacked by the previous government and about 7000 employees belonging to Civil Aviation, PIA, Railways, PTV, NADRA, Utility Stores Corporation, Ports and Shipping and Communications had been regularized.
