Rawalpindi, The 13th round of talks between Defense Secretaries of Pakistan and India formally commenced here Monday and both sides explained their respective stances on Siachen glacier issue.
Defense Secretary Ms Nargis Sethi and Indian Defense Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma chaired their respective panels. They will hold further discussions on the subject on Tuesday and a joint statement at the concluding session will be issued in this regard. The preliminary discussions were held in a very pleasant and cordial atmosphere, an official handout said.
The 8-member Indian delegation led by Defense Secretary, S K Sharma arrived here Sunday on three-day visit to Pakistan and was received by senior officials of Defense Ministry at Chaklala Airport.
Indian delegation also called on Defense Minister Syed Naveed Qamar and exchanged views on matters of bilateral interests. Naveed Qamar expressed that it was in interest of both India and Pakistan to seek amicable resolution of all outstanding issues, including Siachen as it would tremendously contribute towards peace and prosperity of South Asian region.
