ISLAMABAD : Chief Justice (CJ), Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary said that a heavy responsibility lies on the shoulders of legal fraternity to standby for supremacy of constitution and rule of law.
He made these remarks while talking to a delegation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council headed by Chairman Executive Committee Naeem-ud-din Khan and consisting other members, called on him here Monday in Supreme Court.
Welcoming the delegation, CJ admired the role of legal fraternity in Lawyers Movement in which they stood firm during the judicial crises and struggled hard to bring rule of law in the society through peaceful efforts.
The delegation thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for sparing time for them and informed his lordship about the services and sacrifice rendered by the KP Bar Council during the days of movement and told that the Bar is committed and devoted for the cause of rule of law, supremacy of Constitution and independence of Judiciary. The Bar left no stone unturned for the advancement of this cause during the movement. They informed the Chief Justice about their hardships. The Chief Justice assured them to take up the matter with concerned authorities.
They praised his lordship s professional commitment and determination for the cause of dispensation of justice, rule of law and supremacy of Constitution. They further praised the National Judicial Policy which proved fruitful for lawyers as well as litigants and enhanced the public confidence in courts by providing inexpensive and expeditious disposal to them.
They informed his lordship that due to National Judicial Policy, the disposal rate in their courts is satisfactory, however, disposal should not be at the cost of quality of justice. They, therefore, purposed that steps should be taken to further improve the quality of judgments. The delegation assured of full support and stand by judiciary in time of need.
The delegation invited Chief Justice of Pakistan to visit KP Bar Council, his lordship conveyed his gratitude, extended his thanks and assured to visit them in suitable time.
