MQM delegation discuss with Prime Minister projects to determine priorities for ADP for fiscal 2012-13

Islamabad :   A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM led by its parliamentary leader, Dr. Farooq Sattar in meeting with Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday at PM House discussed various development projects in order to determine priorities for fiscal year 2012-13 Annual Development Program ADP.

Gilani talking about salient features of Budget for fiscal 2012-13 said there would be no new taxes, electricity will be top priority, creation of 100,000 jobs and relief to the poor through Benazir Income Support Program. He said due to policies of PPP-led coalition government, entailing incentives to agriculture sector, food security has been achieved. He noted Pakistan has become wheat and sugar exporting country.

It was decided to accelerate work on Karachi Lyari Expressway, completion of which will ease traffic flow for benefit of residents of cosmopolitan city and adjoining areas.

Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said Japan JICA team is due to visit early next month and concrete progress would be made on Karachi Circular Railway Project and process to initiate work on the project to be completed with funding of Japanese government to extent of 98 percent.

It was also agreed in principle that K-4 Water Supply Karachi project will be given priority and Federal Government extend all possible financial and technical assistance to Sindh government in completion of very important venture.

Meanwhile, Senator Sughra Imam in meeting with Prime Minister briefed on ongoing development projects in the country. She Imam said substantial progress has been made to resume work 5.5km portion of Lyari Expressway, which could not be taken up due to issues of compensation. She said on M9 motorway between Hyderabad and Karachi Malaysian firm would take up work soon on BOT basis.

Gilani asked her to continue follow-up vigorously as completion of these projects is very important for people of Karachi and other parts of Sindh province.
