SSP told to produce two women from illegal confinement

KARACHI, Sindh High Court Monday directed SSP Police District Shaheed Benazirabad to recover two women allegedly illegally confined at police station.

A single bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh also directed SSP to personally appear in case of failure to recover detainees on October 27, 2011.

Petitioner Punhal Dahri, approached SHC seeking recovery of his wife & sister-in-law from alleged unlawful detention of Daulatpur police. He impleaded Sindh Home Secretary, IG Police Sindh, DIG Shaheed Benazirabad, DSP Sardar Chandio, SHO PS Pabjo Raham Hussain Wassan, SHO PS Daulatpur Nadir Bhatti & ASI Asghar Ali Kerio, as respondents.

He stated police raided their house, taking away gold ornaments, Rs 20,000 cash & 20 cattles. Police officials allegedly also took away petitioner’s wife, Amir Zadi, and sister-in-law Guddi, who were still in their illegal custody. He prayed to order recovery of his female relatives & order registration of FIR against police officials involved in illegal detention.

Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh ordered: “Let SSP Shaheed Benazirabad produce alleged detenues in Court on next date failing which he shall appear in person with explanation.” Adjourning hearing till October 27, 2011, it also ordered official respondents to place on record copies of FIRs registered against petitioner’s brother on next date of hearing.
