Karachi : Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan on Wednesday inaugurated the Hub River Road and said it was an important highway connecting Sindh and Balochistan Provinces whose construction had been completed two months before the stipulated time.
He said this while talking to media representatives on the inauguration of Phase-I of Hub River Road on Wednesday.
Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed, Provincial Minister for Auqaf Abdul Haseeb Khan, MPA Muhammad Hanif Shaikh, Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh, Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Senior Director Health Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman and other high officials were also present.
Governor said the second phase of the construction of Hub River Road which would include the construction of 5 to 6 kilometer long track would be completed in next financial year.
He said especial engineering with skills and good quality material was used in construction of the road so that it was made such a track that could be used by heavy traffic including 28 wheelers. Any hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic on this key highway would remove after its construction.
Governor of Sindh said this being a very important corridor experienced lot of traffic accidents in past, however the rate of accidents had reduced considerably after construction of this road.
Replying to a question he said enough progress was made in the talks among the government allies regarding holding of local bodies elections and no doubt the Local Government representatives runs municipal affairs in a better way because they held answerable before the people of their area.
Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed while giving a briefing to Governor Sindh on the construction of Hub River Road said this highway had been in a dilapidated condition since last 15 years and the traffic passing through it had hard time as traffic gridlock was a routine. He said the 28 feet wide track of this road had now been widened to 36 feet and the two track road had a total width of 72 feet with the New Jersey barriers in the central median. A total of six u turns were also given on this road for convenience of traffic.
He said after its construction the Hub River Road would be used by different kinds of vehicles including heavy trailers, loaders and dumpers with a speed up to 60 km per hour.
Administrator KMC said the road side storm water drain had also been made widened with the construction of road. The highway was constructed in three layers due to its use by heavy traffic with 10 centimeter carpeting.
