Peshawar: The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar while describing the restoration of peace in Kurram Agency a welcoming development, urged the people of Kurram Agency to play their role in maintaining peace and promoting harmony.
He assured them that the government would deal the miscreants with iron hand and will not allow anyone to disrupt the peaceful environment in the Agency.
He was talking to an 18-member delegation, comprising elders and members of Committee of the Displaced People from Parachinar City, which led by Senator Rashid Ahmad Khan called on the Governor on Thursday here at Governor’s House.
The Governor said that what had been happened in the Agency during recent years were highly deplorable adding religious bigotry is deadly poison for peace. Islam teaches peace, love, brotherhood and tolerance and these are the golden principles that when followed in letter and spirit guarantee lasting peace.
Members of the delegation apprised the Governor about the problems and grievances of the displaced families, demanding that they should be properly compensated and their propertiesshould be returned as were left behind.
They further requested facilities like education, health etc for the returning population besides security. They expressed confidence on the Jirga decisions and pactsand assured to follow and abide by it.
The Governor said that peace in Kurram Agency had been restored after many sacrifices and would be protected at every cost. The Government, he added was firm and committed to the maintenance of peace in Kurram Agency.
He, however, added that people’s support and cooperation was must for its total achievement. The Governor assured the delegation that the displaced families would be compensated and facilitated in their rehabilitation and resettlement. He further assured that damages caused to their left over properties and assets would be probed and the responsible people would be brought to justice.
He said that affected areas would be developed on priority basis and suggestions from the elected representatives would be given weightage in this regard. The Governor said that the implementation of Jirga decision wasbeing monitored and the weaknesses would be removed.
We have to rebuild the confidence of the people and provide them full protection, the Governor said adding that the government was fully committed and hoped that the people would also play their role in the maintenance of peace and promotion of religious harmony and coexistence.
