Peshawar : Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University (KMU) highlighted that KMU is endeavoring to make the examination system more transparent, less biased, modern and at par with other medical universities of the country, he was talking to the certificate awarding ceremony organized by Examination section of KMU at IPM&R in the honor of position holders of MBBS and BDS 1st Professional Annual Examination 2011.Besides others Principals of various medical and dental colleges, key officers of KMU and parents of the position holders students were also present at the occasion.
The VC highlighted that those societies which cannot follows merit became perished, therefore in the history of medical education in the province, we introduced not only newly designed answer books and centralize marking but also adopted induction of fictitious roll No s and involvement of greater number of faculty for marking the exam process fully transparent.
We are applying same tools of evaluation across the board for all private and public sector medical colleges. We should encouraged merit and justice system based on objectivity and transparency at all levels, he added.
He said we are stand firmly against all pressures to enforce merit and justice. He said KMU family is flourishing; we brought experience from old colleges and enthusiasm from new ones, this combination of old and new became a beautiful bouquet of verities of flowers. Now our emphasis is on capacity building of our faculty therefore we introduced various innovative ideas, he remarked.
VC KMU said, we have to change our fifty years old curricula and this should be done with combined efforts. Students of today are our hope and they are our future. He said today s function is for encouragement of merit and our new generation. This practice will be keep continued.
The VC advised the futures doctors Don t get carried away and keep on working hard. your parents, teachers and friends are proud of you and your task is not to let them down. Remember only honesty and hard work pays and gives you real happiness in life. Your aim must be to achieve high goals and serve the country with dedication and honesty sidelining personal interests clashing with national ones .
Earlier while welcoming the participants, Controller of Examination Prof. Dr. Shahnaz Akhtar said in the theory examination the old fashioned long essay questions have now been replaced by MCQs and Short Essay Questions in all the Professional examinations.
She said OSCE and OSPE mode of practical examination replaced the traditional method of practical / viva examinations and was introduced and adopted in different subjects in various medical colleges for 1stprof exam. She announced that the OSPE will be the mode of practical examination in all the subjects next year in all the colleges.
This new system is much better than the traditional table viva, where there is no uniformity and a lot of subjectivity. For changes in evaluation system, workshops on development of MCQs, Short Essay Questions OSCE and OSPE station development were organized by examination department of KMU. Twelve different workshops have been conducted till date for the purpose, she added.
Controller of Exam said, the examination department of KMU has achieved its targets in a short period of two years. We would never have been able to achieve our targets without the guidance of our worthy Vice Chancellor who takes personal interest in all the activities of examination. VC KMU later on awarded certificates to the top position holders of MBBS and BDS 1st Prof Annual Examination 2011.
