Peshawar : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, while endorsing the proposal of making the Tarnab Farm Peshawar a Sub-Campus of Agricultural University of Peshawar, said, indeed Tarnab Farm was a great research center of agriculture and it had also the required infrastructure of a Sub-Campus. Therefore, he would talk to the authorities concerned in this regard, he added.
This, he stated while talking to a 3-member delegation of Agriculture Teachers Association led by its President Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shafi, at Peshawar on Friday. Secretary Information and Culture Azmat Hanif Orakzai was also present on this occasion. Members of the delegation thanked the minister for taking keen interest in resolution of problems of the agricultural university.
Mian Iftikhar maintained that Tarnab Farm Peshawar was an institute of international repute and a big centre of agro-based products. He said that it not only provide international standard of bee, fruits, plants, nurseries, floriculture and seeds of crops in the country but also to the Afghanistan and Central Asian States. He added that the proposed sub-campus of Tarnab Farm would prove a mile-stone in the agro-economic progress and prosperity of the province.
Referring to the complaints of scarcity of funds of the universities, the Information Minister said that after 18th Constitutional Amendment, universities become a provincial subject. He, however, said that it was decided in presence of the Prime Minister of Pakistan that the federal government would be responsible for provision of required funds to the universities till the next NFC Award. He reminded the Federal Government to ensure funds of the universities as per its commitment. He assured that he himself would contact the responsible people of the federal government in this respect.
The minister continued that the provincial government has completed its homework for establishment of Provincial Higher Education Commission in light of the 18th constitutional amendment furthering that as and when the new NFC Award announced, the province would take the affairs of all its universities.
Mian Iftikhar while referring to the decision of the Vice Chancellors of Khyber Pakthunkhwa for not increasing the salaries of their employees by 20%, asked them to reconsider their decision and enhance the salaries by keeping in view the present price-hike.
Regarding the demand of Vice Chancellors of reviewing the university act-2012, the minister asserted that the said act was prepared with active consultation of the educationalists and the interests of all the stake-holders have been under taken. He, however, clarified that if any time, any change was felt in the said act, could be made with consultations.
