QUETTA : Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology (PSG) & Infectious Diseases of Society of Pakistan (IDSP) held their annual conferences from 1 to 3 March 2012 in Karachi. The Health Foundation (THF) participated in both the conferences.
PSG sources said in Karachi Tuesday an introduction of THF was given in the presentations along with the projects that THF is running. Dr Sehr Qaiser gave the presentation in IDSP held at Liaquat National Hospital introducing THF and its role against Hepatitis B & C in Karachi; it stated that THF is a nonprofit organization which has given awareness to 160,000 people for Hepatitis B & C via multiple awareness sessions, screening of 10,000 pregnant females and that 127 infants born to the Hepatitis B positive mothers were given HBIG and Hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hrs of birth. 180,000 children have also been vaccinated for Hepatitis B vaccine with all doses. 1200 people are being given Hepatitis C treatment free of cost and that to date 90 million PKR has been spent against Hepatitis B/C by THF.
PSG meeting was held in Pearl Continental Hotel where Dr Ambreen Arif represented THF gave the presentation on the Sharp Waste Management project being run in collaboration with W.H.O & P.M.R.C in all 30 wards of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center (J.P.M.C). Screening of Hepatitis B/C at the THF stall was also done for 320 people free of cost in both the conferences. People from all walks of life including doctors from abroad also visited both the meetings.
