Karachi, Senior Minister for Education & Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq said on Tuesday that USAID will rehabilitate around 450 rain-affected schools in the four districts of Southern Sindh.
Speaking on the occasion of MoU signing by Deputy Mission Director of USAID, Mr.Edward Birgells and Mukhtiar Ahmed Soomro, Secretary of Education & Literacy to repair and rehabilitate flood/rain damaged schools in the four southern districts of Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Umerkot and Tando Allahyar with $4 million, Senior Minister informed that USAID assisted Sindh Basic Education Program has been approved by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) and implementation of the Program will begin soon.
Sindh Basic Education Program is US$165 million program with US155million USAID grant. The program will improve access and quality of education in Sindh.
He said seven-story Education Complex building would be established in coming three years, where all the education department offices would be shifted.
He recalled 1975 USAID project when it established 200 schools on both sides of the Indus with the efforts of the then Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
