Karachi : The Syndicate of University of Karachi approved the proposed budget of Rs.3314 million for the fiscal year 2012-13 out of which Rs.2645 million will be demanded from the government.
Moreover, University of Karachi will increase PhD allowance to Rs.10,000, Chairmanship allowance to Rs.5000 and Deanship allowance to Rs.6000.
The Syndicate took these decisions in a recent meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser. During the meeting, the finance department indicated that the University has not received the last quarter of its annual grant from Government, as a result of which expanses are being dealt with the supplementary grant.
It has been decided that measures will be taken for the release of the remaining grant as soon as possible.
The Syndicate has also decided that the subsidy in electricity provided to the campus residents should be decreased by increasing per unit fare.
A campus rationalization committee has been formulated under convener ship of Abdul Haseeb Khan, which includes Prof. Dr. Fayaaz Vaid, Prof. Dr. Majid Mumtaz, Dr. Harris Shoaib, Ms. Ghazal Khwaja and Mr. Haji Hanif Tayyab. The committee will evaluate human resource matters related to teaching and non-teaching staff of the University.
In the next meeting of Syndicate, an implementation report will be submitted by the Finance Section of the University.
Moreover, a committee has been constituted to look into the matter pertaining Canteens within KU premises. It is very likely that the rates may be increased as per the needs.
