ISLAMABAD : Pakistan and Sri Lanka underscored the need for promoting close cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, particularly defence.
This was discussed during call by Commander Sri Lankan Navy, Vice Admiral DWAS Dissanayake on Federal Minister for Defence, Syed Naveed Qamar, at Ministry of Defence on Friday. The Sri Lankan Navy delegation is on a visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Chief of the Naval Staff. Both sides showed satisfaction on the training opportunities provided by Pakistan to military personnel of Sri Lanka.
The delegation was also able to visit various training and ship building facilities at Karachi, besides visiting Navy War College at Lahore and official engagements at Islamabad. The Sri Lankan Navy Chief showed keen interest and conveyed his gratitude during visit to various defence production facilities at POF, Taxila and Kamara.
Both sides also agreed to formulize and widen the scope of existing military cooperation by finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). At the end of call souvenirs were exchanged by the two sides.
