Islamabad : The joint candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and allied parties Raja Pervez Ashraf has won the election of the Prime Minister with clear majority.
He got 211 votes, 39 more than the required 172 to win the election. His rival Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi of PML-N secured 89 votes. In all 300 votes were cast in a House of 342.
The votes were cast by the members of the National Assembly at a session of the House in Islamabad this afternoon with Speaker Dr. Fehmida Mirza in the chair.
The members of the PPP and its allies greeted announcement of the result by the Speaker by thumping of the desks.
Radio Pakistan’s correspondent says the PPP’s candidate was supported by PML-Q, MQM, ANP and PML-F. PPP(Sherpao) cast its single vote in favour of PML(N) candidate Mehtab Abbasi.
JUI-F did not take part in the voting process and remained neutral.
