”New Pakistan PM also not to write to Swiss govt. over Zardari graft cases”

Lahore,  Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Raja Riaz has said newly elected Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf would also refrain from writing to the Swiss authorities asking them to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

“A letter to Swiss authorities will not be written in any case, as writing a letter to a foreign country is not only unlawful but also unconstitutional as the constitution has given immunity to the head of the state,” the Daily Times quoted Riaz, as saying.

The National Assembly recently elected Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Ashraf as the twenty fifth Prime Minister of the country, after former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani”s ouster.

The Supreme Court sacked Gilani from the Prime Minister’s office after he was convicted of contempt for refusing to reopen Swiss corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
