Karachi: A state-of-the-art school constructed with assistance of Pakistan was opened by Sri Lanka Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Pakistan’s High Commissioner Ms Seema Ilahi Baloch in Pasyala, Gampaha, a message received Wednesday from Colmbo said.
Pakistan government funded construction of three-storied building of Babussalam Maha Vidyalaya in Gampaha district to support education sector development drive of Sri Lanka government. Foundation stone to construct school building were laid by Rajapaksa and Ms Seema Baloch on February 9, 2011.
The newly built school will cater to Pasyala area population. Presently, school has enrollment of over 500 students with 19 teachers. New building has modern facilities including a library, a fully equipped home science laboratory, computer laboratory and class rooms.
Speaking at function Minister Rajapaksa said Pakistan has proved to be “a true friend” of Sri Lanka throughout the history, and thanked government and people of Pakistan for extending their support for construction of school. Pakistan High Commissioner also announced donation of computers for newly built school.
