Karachi : President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday called for expediting pace of quality work on ongoing development schemes in Lyari and other parts of Karachi to provide maximum possible facilities to the people.
He was chairing briefing on Lyari Development Package at Bilawal House, Karachi, attended by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah Provincial Ministers Pir Mazharul Haq Murad Ali Shah Ayaz Soomro Sharjeel Memon Agha Siraj Durrani Nadir Magsi Saifullah Dharejo senior officials.
President was told old water supply lines in most areas of Lyari have been replaced which ensured better supply of clean drinking water. Out of six Reverse Osmosis Plants two have been completed and being tested for commissioning. The six plants will supplement water availability and benefit around 0.3 million people.
Out of 21 sewerage schemes of Sindh Government in Lyari 19 completed and remaining two completed by September, 2012. Of Federal Government schemes 12 out of 14 completed 96% and two by September next. Some 24 roads carpeted re-furbished, repaired and handed over to administration. In phase II 30 roads on which 80% work completed on 19.
Primary and secondary schools in Lyari are being improved in phased manner. In Phase-I 24 schools renovated, improved. In phase II work on 41 with so far 60% progress.
President was also briefed on progress made so far in electrification development of play grounds parks other recreational, sport facilities like boxing clubs football house, Kakri ground.
