Islamabad : Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said despite financial constraints, the present government has spent unprecedented one point five trillion rupees on the development projects.
He was addressing a seminar on the Role of International NGOs in the Development of Pakistan organized by Muslim Hands, in Islamabad on Monday.
Mr. Gilani pointed out that Pakistan is facing the challenges of extremism and terrorism besides its economy has been affected by the natural disasters. He believed to defeat the scourges of terrorism and extremism by making the development and distribution of resources equitable.
He praised the services of Muslim Hands International and recognizes its efforts in the areas of development, reduction of poverty, promotion of education and for the rehabilitation of the people affected by different natural and man-made disasters.
The Prime Minister said according to the damage need assessement, Pakistan suffered a loss of about ten billion dollars in addition to human loss in recent floods.
Prime Minister Gilani said that education and development are integral to each other and Islam believes in equality and discourages concentration of resources.
He enumerated the services of his elders and family members for the promotion of education and provision of health services in the Multan, Lahore and in Murree areas.
He said he would provide his personal land in Multan for the construction of School of Excellence by Muslim Hands.
He said his government has so for spent Twentytwo Billion rupees in the four provinces for infra structure of the Information Technology Education and has installed broad band service for quick access to the internet facilities.
He said to root out the menace of terrorism his government s policies were based on 3Ds – Dialogue, Development and at the end usage of Deterrance. He said we are using force at last option but the main emphasis is on the dialogue and development to overcome this menace.
He said we are running the country on the democratic path and this is why there is no political prisoner in the country.
Mr. Gilani said that when his government took over the charge the relations with India, Iran and Afghanistan were not upto the mark. But his government started dialogues which is only mean to address our all problems with our neighbours.
He said now the time for wars to resolve problems has been ended. He said all the outstanding issues with India including Kashmir, Siachin, Sir Creek, Water and Terrorism would be addressed through dialogues.
In this connection he initiated dialogues with the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a better atmosphere is prevailing and we have the only way of dialogue to achieve our motives.
Chairman of Muslim Hands Syed Lakhte Hussanain in his welcome address said his organization is devoted to serve those in need to a life of dignity, free of poverty, exploitation and oppression.
MNA Noorul Haque Qadri who is a trustee of the Muslim Hands thanked the Prime Minister for his public welfare works.
A large number of diplomats and thirty representatives of NGOs from all over the world also attended the conference.
