Lahore : Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani says PPP government is committed for enlightened Pakistan with affordable education facilities for all segments of society.
Addressing at 3rd convocation of Virtual University here Saturday, he said government is endeavoring to spread information and communication technology services across the country with special focus on backward areas. “We set up over 1000 educational and community broadband centers in remotest areas which are imparting IT skills and digital literacy training.”
Stressing need for promoting scientific and technical education to meet modern day requirements he said IT centers are being opened in each union council of the country which will also provide employment to 30000 youth. He vowed to increase GDP share to ensure quality education for all in line with Millennium Development Goals.
Gilani said PPP led government is taking various measures to improve human resources development. There is need to pay more attention for promotion of research and technology in education. He directed concerned Ministry to speed up process for acquiring Three-G license after which lot of new employment opportunities will be created in IT sector. A total of 30 IT campuses will be setup in Fata Azad Kashmir & Gilgit Baltistan.
He said Finance Ministry has been directed to create one hundred thousand new jobs for youth during the next financial year 2012-13. He announced Rs 17 billion grant for development of broadband network in the country. This is in addition to Rs 22 billion rupees already announced for this purpose.
