Islamabad , Ismet Yilmaz, Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey called on Minister for Defence Syed Naveed Qamar on Tuesday and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The Turkish defence delegation is currently on a 03 days official visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Minister for Defence. During the call, the Turkish Defence Minister congratulated his Pakistani counterpart for assuming his new assignment as Minister for Defence.
He also highlighted excellent political, diplomatic and military cooperation existing between the two brotherly countries, with a commitment of Republic of Turkey to enhance these relations in future.
Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Defence reciprocated similar sentiments to the Turkish delegation and thanked support and assistance provided by Turkey during floods, counter-terrorism operations, trade and investment in Pakistan, besides elaborate framework of existing defence cooperation, in the realm of defence production, military training, joint military exercises and strategic level dialogues.
The Minister for Defence also appreciated Republic of Turkey for its initiatives and contributions in holding Tri-lateral Summits, involving Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey in exploring options of lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.
Importance of Pakistan and its contributions to fight terrorism and Pakistan’s relevance to the peace and prosperity of Afghanistan due to historical, economic and cultural linkages was amply highlighted by the Turkish Minister, which was appreciated by the Pakistani side.
In the end, both sides pledged to foster long term cooperation in the domains of security, defence, education and economic ventures for mutual benefit. Turkish Minister for Defence also extended invitation to Pakistan’s Minister for Defence to visit Turkey on a convenient schedule.
At the end of call, souvenirs were exchanged and the Turkish delegation departed after a group photo.
