Adil falls in first round in Maidstone

Karachi,  Pakistani qualifier Khwaja Adil Maqbool lost his first round match to French Lucas Serme in the SE Leisure Kent Open   the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 event at The Mote Squash Club in Maidstone, England.

Adil, who was the only Pakistani player appearing in the event failed to put resistance against Lucas Serme, who took 38 minutes to record a straight-set 11-7, 13-11, 11-7 triumph.

The Dubai-based Pakistani was left reflecting on a moment of sportsmanship that backfired when he refused to take a penalty point at game ball in the second game after striking his opponent.

Qualifier Adil had fought back from 5-2 down to lead 11-10 but his relieved and grateful opponent edged home 13-11.

Adil led 4-1 in the third game but Lucas Serme stepped up the pressure and played tighter squash as Maqbool’s challenge faded away.

In quarters, Lucas will face Danish No1 Kristian Frost Olesen.
