Karachi, There had been a big turn over at the week-end Pairs Bridge at Karachi Bridge Association. Twenty-three pairs contested the weekly title.
Khalid Nadeem of Minolta and Tariq Zafar of KESC outscored the opponents by registering a thumping win,. Competing from North-South direction, Nadeem Khalid and Tariq Zafar scored impressive 61.14 percent to win the title.
Shaikh Muqeet of Century Insurance had been in the news throughout the month of June winning titles at KBA and Golf Club. Partnering with Zafar Zaki, they competed the pairs event from East West direction and came on top having scored 59.25 percent. Other position holders were:
North-South- Nadeem Khalid-Tariq Zafar 61.14, Tanvir Mazahir-Masud Mazhar 60.23, Wali Muhammed-Maqbool Ahmed 55.91 percent.
East-West – Sh. A. Muqeet-Zafar Zaki 59.25, Ali Hai – Zia Hai 57.95, A R. Rizvi-Anisur Rehman 53.25 percent.
In the Swiss Team event conducted by Karachi Bridge Association five complete round robin league matches were played. Foxy having the services of Nuri Pasha, Nur Ala, Shaikh Naseem, A.K. Bhurgri and Hashim Hameed Khalid won the weekly title with a score of 91 Victory Points. Foxy won three matches from GFQ 23-7, Aces 21-9 and GM 21-9, losing two matches to Dynamo 12-18 and Bilal 14-16.
Bilal having Gulzxar Bilal, Khaled Mohiuddin, Shakeel Chandna and M. Azwerul Haque finished second having 89 V.P. to their credit. Bilal won four matches – 16-14 against Aces, 24-6 from GM, 16-14 from Foxy and 19-11 from Dynamo. Lost the only encounter against GFQ 14-16 GM with 71 V.P. finished third and ACES with 70 V.P. occupied fourth position.
