Afghan Blast Kills 5, Wounds 11

Officials in southeastern Afghanistan say a bus has hit a roadside bomb, killing five passengers, including women and children.

Authorities say 11 people were wounded in the blast Sunday in Ghazni province.

The bus was traveling from Kabul to the southern city of Kandahar.

Improvised bombs planted on Afghan roads are a common insurgent tactic, but they frequently miss their likely intended targets – Afghan and NATO troops – instead killing civilians.

No one has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s explosion.
